“Therefore,

Whether you eat or drink,

Whatever you do,

do all to the glory of God.”

Paul to a messed-up church. ~ 1 Corinthians 10:31.

I have been thinking a lot the last few months about how Christians especially pastors interact with the church, community, and their culture. I do not believe that social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter, or similar sites are meant for deeper thoughts. Those sites exists to our culture of instant response instead of insightful reflection.

Once upon a time I thought I had a lot to say. I realized though not all of it was necessarily worth saying because it was not focused on the glory of God. I want my life including whatever I write to worship God. I love writing. So here I am at 36 years old starting over as a writer. I want not to just be a writer but a writer who is worshipping while writing. I want my life in the present tense and my life when reviewed in the past tense to be a footnote to the glory of God.

Some Christians think that the world is going to hell in a hand basket. Some have their exit plans, literally and theologically. Nearly everything they write is tinged with cynicism. I am not in that camp because when I read the Bible it is story of hope for the past, present, and future. When Paul was writing to the church in Corinth it was incredibly messed up. Incest, greed, church members fighting and suing each other, hypocrisy, and a lot of poor theology were hallmarks of that church. Yet, Paul was not willing to give up on them. He wrote to them again and again and again. Why? Because he had hope that the love of God could transform even the very flawed.

Paul had a desire that the Christians of Corinth and any other Christians reading his words would learn to desire God not just above all things but through all things. He wanted their life to be lives that would be a symphony of worship even though they were living a life of disharmony.

So here I am worshipping while writing. Thank you for joining in my journey.
